Abstract In the context of the history of marketing research and modern research methodologies, Internet research (i.e. methods that incorporate Internet technology to gather original data from respondents and participants) is relatively new. Internet research has rapidly developed over the past decade or so to the point where it today plays a significant role within the marketing research industry. During its up-until-now relatively brief existence, Internet research has been both much maligned and widely hyped. Earlier this year, Prophis Research and Survey Sampling got together to discuss and plan a research initiative whose aim it was to take an exploratory snapshot of how those within the research industry view these emergent and emerging methods. We wanted to talk mainly to those who use and conduct research using these methods, but also to many who do not. In general, we wanted to give some context to the major issues of the day as they are seen among research professionals.
